'The Wow! signal' was detected on August 15, 1977, by the Ohio State University's Big Ear radio telescope in the United States. Astronomer Jerry R. Ehman was so amazed that he wrote 'Wow!' after circling the signal's intensity of 6EQUJ5. As of 2021, the signal remains "the strongest candidate for an alien radio transmission ever detected."
