Our relationship with the artificial, with cosmetic surgery, and with all that deviates from humanity and nature, is becoming increasingly complex and intrinsic to our society. On the one hand, we are witnessing a progressive acceptance, an integration, almost a symbiosis between man and the artificial, fueled by a constant quest for perfection and eternal youth. The use of cosmetic surgery, once considered taboo, is increasingly widespread, and seems to mark a trend towards the homogenization of physical traits, a sort of standardization of beauty. We are moving towards a future where the human being will be increasingly "remade", and where the distinctive signs of individuality might be drowned in a sea of artificial elements. Plastic masks, robotic creatures, dolls, all metaphors of this ongoing transformation. This might lead future generations to consider this union of man-artificiality as something natural, ordinary. Despite this, it is important to remember that our humanity does not reside only in our physicality, but also in our emotions, our experiences, our ability to think, to love, to suffer. In an increasingly artificial world, it will be crucial to remember and value what truly makes us human.
