Moiraine was born in the nation of Cairhien in the year 956 NE. She was the youngest daughter of Dalresin Damodred, who was a member of the Royal Family and was a scholar. The name of Moiraine's mother is unknown. Moiraine's father's brother, her uncle, was King Laman Damodred, the ruler of Cairhien and the High Seat of House Damodred.
